Whole World Summit, Good Food Festival & Conference & IHHN Updates!

Hello to All,

Spring is always a time with renewed activity for me. Maybe it is the new plants pushing up through the earth; snow drops blooming, swelling buds everywhere and the increase in sightings of robins!

Yesterday started the 2014 Whole World Summit and the list of teachers/presenters is inspiring. There is something for all who are moved to uplift the planet.

Tomorrow begins the Good Food Festival & Conference 

The Indiana Holistic Health Network is being updated page by page to reflect our current membership.  The changes we are making, are to ensure that the IHHN will continue to be a viable resource for seekers of holistic and alternative therapies and resources.  Over the next few months, you will see many changes.  The changes will allow the network to care for itself financially and offer resources to promote the network in venues to benefit our members, advertisers and supporters.

Response to Healing CRANE - Ten Ways to Prepare...

Health to you through these hot, muggy, and beautiful days in Southern Indiana! Our local Farmers Markets are thriving. Thank you for your responses. I am always interested in any response to what is included in the Healing CRANE Newsletter. I also appreciate learning when links are not working! The last issue touched a few of you readers, creating a couple of different responses. Based on what is received, I am sure there are other thoughts that readers just don't have time to make to let us hear. We had one individual who did not like some of the information; while a few others asked that we keep the articles coming with references to health and medicine in response to "Medicine After Oil" by Daniel Bednarz, published to Orion Magazine July/August 2007; and other topics concerning societal transitions. Most readers understand that all aspects of our health and wellness are connected to the health of all systems supporting our day to day existence, and yes, that includes petroleum products. Following is the opening to the article by Bednarz. You can read the rest in the newsletter.

"The scale and subtlety of our country’s dependency on oil and natural gas cannot be overstated. Nowhere is this truer than in our medical system.

Petrochemicals are used to manufacture analgesics, antihistamines, antibiotics, antibacterials, rectal suppositories, cough syrups, lubricants, creams, ointments, salves, and many gels. Processed plastics made with oil are used in heart valves and other esoteric medical equipment. Petrochemicals are used in radiological dyes and films, intravenous tubing, syringes, and oxygen masks. In all but rare instances, fossil fuels heat and cool buildings and supply electricity. Ambulances and helicopter “life flights” depend on petroleum, as do personnel who travel to and from medical workplaces in motor vehicles."

A few readers were put off by the language used by James Howard Kunstler in "Ten Ways to Prepare for a Post-Oil Society" (Alternet).

Following is an exert from another of his articles, "Making Other Arrangements - A wake-up call to a citizenry in the shadow of oil scarcity" published January/February 2007 in Orion magazine.

"AS THE AMERICAN PUBLIC CONTINUES sleepwalking into a future of energy scarcity, climate change, and geopolitical turmoil, we have also continued dreaming. Our collective dream is one of those super-vivid ones people have just before awakening. It is a particularly American dream on a particularly American theme: how to keep all the cars running by some other means than gasoline. We’ll run them on ethanol! We’ll run them on biodiesel, on synthesized coal liquids, on hydrogen, on methane gas, on electricity, on used French-fry oil . . . !

The dream goes around in fevered circles as each gasoline replacement is examined and found to be inadequate. But the wish to keep the cars going is so powerful that round and round the dream goes. Ethanol! Biodiesel! Coal liquids . . .

We are in a time of global transformation and uncertainty. We know that resources are disappearing, and we know inside that we will have to make some changes. With imminent changes before us, it seems that close examination of health and wellness practices and systems; how we want to transition resources and services utilizing realistic plans is a great idea.

May we find common ground to travel upon, and meet many supportive people along the way.

After so many months the Healing CRANE Newsletter for the Indiana Holistic Health Network is up and the comments have been good. We are working on getting the publication out more frequently. Network Note - March

Hello Everyone,

This note is being mailed to the Indiana Holistic Health Network mailing list. I hope this information finds you all well. If the emails and calls received are an indication, the Indiana Holistic Health Network Directory services are in greater demand. Considering current transitions within our local communities, we a growing need for our services. Our strong web presence and community visibility allows those who seek us, to easily find us. In an average week, we gain two new members on the mailing list. There is continual growth within our web cased community network directory. Our resources are expanding, and networking partnerships continualy multiply, to the benefit of us all.

Though you haven’t heard from us for a while, we have been busy determining the best way we can serve you. To that end, attached is our current Network Marketing Plan. We have reduced our Advertising Rates, and revamped the Practitioner and Merchant Pages to make them more appealing to you, as well as more affordable. Most of you who submitted directory listing information have been added, so please check to see if any corrections are necessary. If changes are to be made, submit them via email only.

We also updated Farmer’s Markets, Submissions, the Calendar, a few new resources for Green Building, Green Architecture, and more than fifty other directory resource pages. Please excuse our errors, but if noticed, contact us via email, so corrections to your listings and the web site can be made.

Before submitting information for listing on our calendar, please read our advertising and marketing information to become familiar with the time frame we are working with. We apologize for any messages we cannot share with the network. We will do our best (as time allows) to post announcements for non-profits. We will also, (as time allows) post free community events to the IHHN calendar.

Our updated Advertising page reflects our new rates. A new Healing Crane Newsletter includes information about current opportunities to have free advertising with us. We are open to hearing others you would like us to consider. The Healing Crane includes information about New Wings Project at Middle Way, Buying Local Keeps Communities Alive! We believe that what each and every one connected to the Indiana Holistic Health Network does is essential to having, developing, and maintaining a healthy sustainable community.

The Indiana Holistic Health Network is just that, a group network. As a community, we are stronger and our voices more easily heard and our services more easily found.
