Indiana Seeks to Amend Constitution to Ban Gay Marriage and Attack on Women's Reproductive Health
Dear Reader,
I am more interested in people loving people in healthy relationships whether they be men and women, man and man or woman and woman and putting our collective resources into practices and legislation that will support the health and well being of all of our citizens. The reality is that families come in a variety of forms and in the interest of healthy families which makes for healthy communities, all families need to b equally respected. If any marriage is threatened, then the couple within that marriage needs to look within their own marriage for the root of their problems, not outside at others relationships. PCC
Today "The Goshen News" - http://goshennews.com/breakingnews/x814636078/Critics-of-amendment-banning-gay-marriage-to-rally March 14, 2011
Critics of amendment banning gay marriage to rally
Anonymous Associated Press Mon Mar 14, 2011, 09:54 AM EDT
INDIANAPOLIS — Opponents of a proposed constitutional amendment banning gay marriage and civil unions plan to rally at the Indiana Statehouse.
The "Equality for All Hoosiers" rally Monday comes two days before a Senate committee meeting that will take up the issue. The Republican-controlled House already has approved the proposal, and the Republican-led Senate also is expected to pass it.
Supporters of the amendment say it would provide an additional layer of protection for traditional marriage in case courts later overturn Indiana's current law banning same-sex marriage. Critics say the amendment is unnecessary and would write discrimination into Indiana's constitution.
If the General Assembly approves the proposal this year, it would have to pass again in 2013 or 2014 to be on the ballot in 2014.
ATTACK ON WOMENS HEALTH IN INDIANA!
Womens health is under attack in Indiana and House Bill 1210 is one example of legislation that I think undermines the health and well being of women. If this bill becomes law, it would actually require doctors to lie to pregnant women and tell them that getting an abortion increases their risk of breast cancer -- even though science says is doesn't »
This bill bans abortion after 20 weeks. It would force a woman to have an ultrasound unless she submits a written refusal. Plus, it defunds groups like Planned Parenthood a much needed community resource supporting women’s and girl’s health as the numbers of those slipping into poverty rise. Further language of this bill would scare some women into believing the lie that terminating a pregnancy means they could get breast cancer. The whole abortion/breast cancer theory is controversial and the studies that made the connection are widely considered flawed.
It is unfortunate that politicians are inserting their personal ideologies between the welfare of women and the truthful support of her health practitioner. In a time when we need all of our citizens to be healthy, I think it a grave error for Indiana or any lawmakers to mandate the spread of misinformation and fear tactics that would have the result of miss-educating and reducing the quality of health care to women.
Thank you for reading this, and I hope that you will take the time to read further and educate your self and tell your lawmakers to oppose House Bill 1210 and other attack on women's health »

The Arts Alliance of Bloomington
The Arts Alliance of Bloomington group has been formed as a group for artists; "...a facilitating and communications agency that ideally will connect artists and groups of artists (or “guilds”) with one another and, through a steering committee and a smaller coordinating committee, flow that connection on to those entities, such as local government, IU, the Chamber of Commerce, Ivy Tech and others that may have resources or can otherwise help materially achieve whatever goals are identified."
Why do I post this to the Indiana Holistic Health Network Blog? I offer this information here because I believe that the arts are among the major ingredients to healthy people and communities. Lots of research data exist about the benefits arts offer in support of mental, emotional and spiritual wellbeing. I have also been a working artist for my entire adult life; and I personally know the valuable role arts have played within my own life, to the art viewing public and to the hundreds, maybe thousands of students, I have had the joy of sharing my artist skills with.
If you are an artist working the Bloomington, Indiana area and would like to connect with the AAB join the group here - http://groups.google.com/group/bloomington-arts/
Blessings of health and art!

Upcoming Sanshinji Retreats -
Sanshinji, a part of the Indiana Holistic Health Network has a regular practice schedule and various retreats and teachings scheduled through out the year.
September Sesshin (September 1 - 6) at Sanshinji
During this sesshin we practice in complete silence. The sesshin is an opportunity for participants to focus strictly on zazen with minimal distractions. If you wish to participate, we recommend that you read Opening the Hand of Thought by Kosho Uchiyama Roshi in order to understand the significance of the sesshin. We also recommend you have some retreat experience before participating in an Uchiyama Roshi-style sesshin.

Genzo-e at Dharma Field Zen Center (September 15 - 20)
Genzo-e at Dharma Field Zen Center will be Shobogenzo Bussho (Buddha Nature) Part 3.
Please contact Dharma Field ZC for more information and registration.
Walking Retreat in Hot Springs, NC (October 15 - 17)
Okumura Roshi has been annually leading a walking meditation retreat on the Appalachian Trail. Lodging at the historic Sunnybank Inn with organic vegetarian meals and evening soaks in the nearby geothermal warm mineral springs.
"My idea of a walking retreat is rather like a pilgrimage (junrei) in Japan. Even though there are no Buddhist temples to visit on the Appalachian Trail around Hot Springs, as Dogen wrote in his Mountain and Water Sutra, 'The mountains and rivers at this moment are the manifestation of the ancient buddhas.' We will 'just walk,' letting go of our thoughts, opening ourselves to being truly intimate with ourselves and nature." - Okumura Roshi

Save Bradford Woods for MCCSC 5th Graders!
Save Bradford Woods for MCCSC
For more than fifty years, Monroe County fifth graders have been spending time in the woods, enjoying nature and learning about ecosystems and the need to conserve resources. This year, the school corporation has eliminated all funding for future trips to Bradford Woods. A grassroots action organization,"Save Bradford Woods for MCCSC," has formed to raise funds to reinstate Bradford Woods outdoor education program in the Monroe County schools budget for the coming year. The need is urgent and immediate: $40,000 must be raised by May 15th to enable Monroe County fifth-graders to attend Bradford Woods in 2010--2011.
Concerned citizens can donate online directly to the MCCS Foundation via their website (https://app.etapestry.com/hosted/FoundationofMonoreCountyCommun/OnlineGiving.html). To ensure that online donations are targeted to support the Bradford Woods campaign, donors must a) select "Designated Gift" in the "Purpose of Gift" pull down menu, AND b) type "Bradford Woods" in the "Related Gift Information" field.
Additionally, starting Monday, April 19, all Bloomingfoods cash registers will be equipped with the means to enable customers to donate funds to the MCCSC Foundation earmarked specifically for Bradford Woods.
“Save Bradford Woods for MCCSC” encourages all concerned citizens to join this effort to ensure that local schoolchildren continue to benefit from the experience of outdoor education. In this time of crises in the environment and in children’s health, outdoor education has never been more important. The time to act is now! Join with us to save Bradford Woods for MCCSC!
For more information or to get involved check us out on Facebook (Save Bradford Woods for MCCSC) or visit the Support Public Education in Monroe County booth at the Farmer’s Market.

Say NO to Abstinence -only funding in Health Care Bill!
Just Say NO to abstinence-only funding in the Health Care Bill!
Sadly, the Senate Finance Committee voted (by a razor-thin margin of 12-11) to authorize $50 million in funding for abstinence-only programs as part of Health Care Reform- despite over 10 years of evidence that these programs do not work.
We need to let Senators know that we will not stand for this! Conservative ideology has trumped science and effective health policy for far too long. We shouldn't spend even a single more taxpayer dollar on programs that spread fear, give misinformation, and stigmatize young women and BGLT people.
President Obama has called for an end to abstinence-only funding. Democrats in the House and Senate have held firm through budget negotiations. We are SO close to finally victory!
Please take action now to eliminate these dangerous programs!

Hello Everyone,
This note is being mailed to the Indiana Holistic Health Network mailing list. I hope this information finds you all well. If the emails and calls received are an indication, the Indiana Holistic Health Network Directory services are in greater demand. Considering current transitions within our local communities, we a growing need for our services. Our strong web presence and community visibility allows those who seek us, to easily find us. In an average week, we gain two new members on the mailing list. There is continual growth within our web cased community network directory. Our resources are expanding, and networking partnerships continualy multiply, to the benefit of us all.
Though you haven’t heard from us for a while, we have been busy determining the best way we can serve you. To that end, attached is our current Network Marketing Plan. We have reduced our Advertising Rates, and revamped the Practitioner and Merchant Pages to make them more appealing to you, as well as more affordable. Most of you who submitted directory listing information have been added, so please check to see if any corrections are necessary. If changes are to be made, submit them via email only.
We also updated Farmer’s Markets, Submissions, the Calendar, a few new resources for Green Building, Green Architecture, and more than fifty other directory resource pages. Please excuse our errors, but if noticed, contact us via email, so corrections to your listings and the web site can be made.
Before submitting information for listing on our calendar, please read our advertising and marketing information to become familiar with the time frame we are working with. We apologize for any messages we cannot share with the network. We will do our best (as time allows) to post announcements for non-profits. We will also, (as time allows) post free community events to the IHHN calendar.
